Marketing Your Website With Podcasts
Posted on March 31st, 2010 No commentsWhat does website marketing and podcasting have to do with each other? Simple, podcasting gives your viewing audience an alternative method to receive information on new products, product updates, additional services you are offering, etc.
Podcasting is a relatively new technology developed by Apple, Inc. to give people a way to listen to just about anything via the iPod. From the iPod to iTunes, podcasting has really taken off and now, there are several good programs that can download and listen to podcasts.
Podcasting is now also going to be factored into the algorithms that drive the up and coming Google Universal Search, which is really designed to bring all forms of website marketing together.
Benefits of Podcasting for Website Marketing:
Since Google has decided that Social Network Marketing is an important form of website marketing, podcasting has moved its way right to the top of the list, probably because it is currently one of the most popular ways of disseminating information.
Basically what you do is create small radio shows discussing products or services you offer. Once these are created, they are converted to the podcast format, a logo or other form of artwork is attached and the file is uploaded to your site. Once it is on your website (probably under “news” or “press”), you submit these podcasts to the major search engines and podcast directories.
One of the great thing about podcasts is that you can actually make the logo or artwork associated with each podcast clickable. So, lets say you sell website marketing which includes link popularity, website optimization and pay per click management; if you are doing a podcast about the importance of link popularity, you can have your artwork clickable and take the listener right to the page of your site talking about link popularity. The same goes for any podcast you do – just link the logo / artwork with a page on your site.
From there, it is just a matter of time before you get picked up. With Google’s new Universal Search that will be launched later in the year, it is possible and probable that your podcasts (if properly optimized) will be picked up and displayed as part of the standard search results. Of course, these will only be displayed if someone searches a keyword that your podcast is associated with and promoted for.

Link Building Strageties : Ways to improve your link bulding methods
Posted on March 30th, 2010 No commentsLink Building is a one method of search engine optimization. This method is designed to:
* Drive targeted web traffic to your website
* Improve your sites poplarity and Google Page Rank
* Improve your sites rankings in organic results3 ways to improve your link building stargeties are by adding your web address to the following sites:
* Article Submissions
* Press Releases
* Web DirectoriesOutbound Linking vs. Inbound Linking
Inbound Links are one of many ways links coming from directories and other websites to your home page or web pages. The link is usually a hyperlink of your websites address on another persons website. eg www.phpsoftwaregeeks.com This is a simple link. A higher quality link would be when the link contains some relevant keywords to your sites product or service. Eg Live Chat Software , Membership , Shopping Cart Script
Sometimes if content on your website is attractive and contains great information about your business or profession, other sites that view this content as useful will provide links to your site or a particular web page on your website without you knowing. So it pays to have valuable information on your site that will increase your sites online popularity through increased one-way links.
An Outbound Link is a hyperlink on a particular web page within you website to another person’s website. Outbound links can boost your search engine rankings
when you provide links to other similar web pages that are relevant to what you are discussing. Outbound links to authority websites is also valuable. -
Podcast Promotion – 4 Reasons Why the Podcast Title is Important
Posted on March 30th, 2010 No commentsBy Hendry Lee
Direct response marketers know the importance of headlines. They spend a lot of time brainstorming headlines that “click.” They spend even more later to test which headlines work best to drive people into responding to the offer.
The Internet resembles direct marketing in many areas. On the Web, the interaction happens at a much faster rate than in traditional media though.
Think about search engines. When search users perform a query, they typically get the first ten results on the first page. Out of those results, they may click on the first, second or third results. While most likely some of them will click on the first item due to what we call impulsive clicking, others will scan through the result to see which one they relate to best.
From the title and snippets of content and URL, they decide which they want to click.
Which one do you think will get the most clicks? A dull and boring title, or the one that immediately make them interested?
Podcast title is no different. It is just a few short words but it could mean success or failure to get people to listen or read more about your podcast.
A podcast title resembles the headlines in direct response ads because it attracts the readers into the body of the podcast. In this case, it is the description and podcast notes. If they raise curiosity, they may even click on the Web-based player to preview the content or download the episode.
The next step is of course to get them subscribe to the podcast so they become regular consumers of your podcast.
Why podcast title is so important? There are at least 4 reasons why you should pay attention to it:
1. Search engine results
The title of the podcast has to be interesting enough so that people who search for certain topics should pay attention to your podcast page.
2. Directory exposures
Podcast directories will often display just the title of the podcast in their listings, with a bit of description only if the users click through. The title has to be clear enough for the users to know what it is all about.
3. Search engine optimization
Search engines pay great attention to the title of the page. It is part of the equation to determine the topic of the page. People will often link to you by the name of the podcast, so if the name is frequently searched, and you get into the first page of the result page, you will get free traffic to your podcast page.
4. Branding
If the title is easy to remember, readers and listeners should be able to tell your site just by looking at the search results, in the directories, or even in the RSS or podcast feed.
Good title draws people into your content and podcast. Make sure you don’t overlook it.
Are you driving boatloads of traffic from social media? You should.

Why Search Engine Optimization Isn’t Enough! Legitimate Link Building After the Nofollow Tag.
Posted on March 29th, 2010 No commentsBy: Roger Stellers
SEO or SEM?
With all of the SEO companies popping up everywhere how do you know your SEO efforts are going to pay off? I spend a significant amount of time reviewing SEO offerings from other companies and find that the range in quality of SEO can vary greatly. While doing proper SEO is very important, will SEO alone dramatically improve your ranking in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP)? If you don’t have an effective Search Engine Marketing (SEM) campaign, the answer is probably not! SEM uses several techniques that could include but aren’t limited to, SEO, Link Building, Pay Per Click, Social Media and more. The focus of this article, and one of the more difficult and time consuming aspects of a good SEM campaign, is link building.
What is link building and why is it important?
Link building is the process of building your sites link popularity, or simply put, creating links back to your site from other sites. This is very important and arguably the most heavily weighed factor in determining your site ranking in the SERPs. Through building a large amount of outside links back to your site, the Search Engines will view you as more relevant, credible (possibly), and popular. Ideally you should try and build links from credible websites with content related to you site. The more popular and credible the linking website the more it should help you. There are all sort of potential ramifications for building links from unsavory websites and link exchange services which are beyond the scope of this article. But suffice it to say you can actually be doing more damage than good if you try and take shortcuts. Remember if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is… and it’s been my experience that this adage holds truer today, on the internet, than at any point in history! (Thanks Nigeria!)
Why link building today is harder than ever.
After many years of link building abuse from comment spammers and the like, Google came up with an answer, the nofollow tag. Because of rampant misuse of people posting spam comments on blogs, bulletin boards, and content sites, the nofollow tag was introduced. This is a method by which sites could still allow users to post links, without lending any of their sites credibility to the referring link. In other words, your site now gets NO credit for linking if the referring site uses the nofollow tag. It seems major sites, that were once a staple of link building (both credible and otherwise) are all going the way of the nofollow tag. Wikipedia, craigslist, yahoo answers, and the list goes on. While I am not sad to see spammers lives made more difficult, this has made credible link building more difficult for the rest of us. Below are 5 ideas for good and credible link building after the nofollow tag.
1. Article Syndication – Writing relevant articles with good content, that will interest readers is always a great idea for more than just link building. It helps establish your reputation as a professional and build credibility. It is also very time consuming but over the long run well worth it. As part of your link building campaign consider writing 2 to 3 articles a week and syndicating those to 10 – 20 different article syndication sites. Part 2 of this article will include syndication sites listed by popularity and that will be a great place to start! It may take you an extra 5 or 10 hours a week, but your efforts will pay off big time over time. If you don’t have the time, consider hiring someone who will work with you to develop link building plan and submit your articles for you. There are many good companies out there that can help you with this.
2. Press Releases – Have you recently launched your business or a new website, product or anything else worth telling the world about? Consider issuing a press release. While most of these services are not free they are a very effective means to get the word out about your company and create links from highly trusted websites. PR Newswire offers a large variety of services that can reach many different audiences. It’s not free but it is effective.
3. Social Bookmarking – Social bookmarking sites are a great way to promote your content. Part 2 of this article will include a current list of social bookmarking sites that do not make use of the nofollow tag and more detailed strategy using social bookmarking.
4. Blogging – Blogging is a great way to add content to your site, gain a following of readership, gain relevancy and credibility with the search engines and your prospects and clients. Blogging can also be a great way to link build. Once you have established your blog and have a decent following, you can make use of guest bloggers from other popular blogs, or even link to another popular blog when you see a post that you think is excellent and your readers would appreciate. There is a reasonable chance the owner will notice your inbound link and link back, if you have good and relevant content. Warning: if you do plan to blog, make sure you stay on top of it and post content frequently. Weekly if not daily is preferred, but even more important than frequency of posting, post GOOD CONTENT.
5. Trade Links (if it’s relevant and beneficial) – Email the webmasters of sites that compliment your site but generally do not compete with it, the more popular the better. Outline the benefits for them to link to your site. Explain how their readers could benefit from the content on your site and how your readers benefit from the content on theirs! ALWAYS HAVE A LINK TO their site on your site already BEFORE you do this. Include the location of this link on your site in the email and explain why your visitors benefit from linking to them. This can be a very effective tool when done right because you are building links from highly popular and highly relevant sites to yours. Part 2 to this article will discuss strategy to trade links in much more detail.

Podcasting – A Brilliant Traffic Generation And Marketing Tool
Posted on March 29th, 2010 No commentsBy Nick J Smith
Although podcasting has been around for a number of years, it didn’t really become popular until about three years ago, when Apple created its iPod player. Podcasting is simply an audio recording of text – frequently a blog — that can be played on an mp3 device or over a computer. The term “podcasting” is a combination of the terms “iPod” and “broadcasting”.
Podcasts are not difficult to make if you have the proper tools at hand. If you want to simply speak extemporaneously, as is often the case, all that is needed is a good microphone and recording device with editing capability. It’s also useful to have a way to convert the recorded file into mp3 format to make it widely available for listeners. This recording process is quick and easy, requiring minimal preparation and rehearsal, for the most part.
However, if someone wants to record a prepared text, a teleprompter or software autocue is very helpful in displaying the material to be spoken in such a way as to simplify the reading process. Professional broadcasters use this device while presenting their newscasts on the air. Having the words in front of you and moving at a defined pace decreases the likelihood of losing your place and makes for a smoother read.
Since podcasting deals with sound, be certain to check that your level is consistent throughout and the end result is clear and audible. There should be no unwanted background sounds, muffles, or other distractions. These can be edited out of the final product, if necessary. You can also add background, such as music, but make sure you are not using something that requires a royalty payment or similar charge. It’s easy enough to find a large selection of music online suitable for inclusion with podcasting.
Creating a podcast as an adjunct to a web site is now common practice. Marketing studies have shown that the visitor feels more of a connection to the web site if there is also a voice along with the words on the page. This tends to build the ‘relationship’ more quickly and increase comfort levels. It’s also a good idea to keep your podcast updated and fresh.
Your podcast could be hosted on your web site or at a remote location with a link to it. There are a couple of web sites that allow free posting and will provide hosting space for your podcast. The major advantage to hosting elsewhere is it will cut down on the necessary bandwidth, and podcasts, by their very nature, use a lot of bandwidth.
You can probably find podcasts on almost any subject imaginable. Some authors provide both the written and spoken word to get their message out. That then gives the reader or listener the option of using whatever format is most convenient to them. When learning a difficult subject, or one that requires hearing the spoken sounds, such as a foreign language, people often find that having both – reading and listening simultaneously – provides the easiest method of mastering the material. Getting the auditory as well as visual queue makes it easier to retain the subject matter.
And as with books and articles, the podcast is only as good as the presenter. If the subject is not properly researched or contains inaccurate information, if the subject is not addressed in a logical way that is easy to understand, then the podcast has little value.
Just as podcasting challenges the presenter to be interesting and informed, it should compel the listener to pay attention. This is a great way to get a message across, and it appears that the popularity of podcasting will only increase in the foreseeable future.
Nick Smith is the owner of PodcastAutocue.com – the podcast software that enables anyone – beginner or expert – to consistently create clear, error-free, professional podcasts, without having to spend $1,000+ on teleprompting equipment.

How to Promote Your Web Site by Writing Articles
Posted on March 27th, 2010 No commentsBy Oudam Em
Sharing knowledge on the web can be a very powerful way to establish your online presence and credibility. First, you write a thoughtful and informative article on an topic in your area of expertise. Then you submit it to e-zines to be read by the general public and possibly re-published on other web sites.
Appended to the end of your article is a resource box containing a brief promotional message linking to your web site. Webmasters who wish to reprint your article on their sites are required to include your resource box along with any live links to your site.
For example, an article written by me might have the following resource box:
Article by Oudam Em. Oudam is the webmaster of Web Launch, http://www.nexcomp.com/weblaunch, a free resource for web site promotion and search engine optimization. Please visit his site for more free tips and tutorials on building traffic and generating income on your site.
The benefit that you get from your article is two-fold. First, your article will be read by visitors to the e-zine site. If they find it helpful and interesting, they will likely visit your web site to see what else you had to offer. Second, webmasters who find your article useful to their visitors may re-publish it on their sites, giving your article additional exposure.
Every time your article is re-published on a web site, you gain an additional one-way link to your site through the live link in your resource box. This adds to your link popularity and ultimately increases your search engine rankings. As you can see, the true potential of your article lies in its ability to propagate virally in cyberspace.
For your article to propagate virally, it should appeal to both readers and webmasters alike. Keep in mind that your goal is hold your readers’ attention long enough for them to get to the resource box. If your article is boring and uninformative, few people will read it beyond the first or second paragraph.
Below are some pointers to consider when writing an article:
1. Give your article a catchy title.
Your title is the first and often the only thing that visitors see when they skim through a list of articles on an e-zine page. Put some thought into coming up with a title that grabs the reader’s attention right away. Words like “Secrets”, “Free”, and “Successful” tend to attract more attention than others.
2. Your article should not read like an ad.
Most people read articles to find information they can use, not to see a pitch about your products or services. If they see your article as nothing more than a shameless act of self promotion, they’ll get turned off and hit the “Back” button right away. Put yourself in the reader’s shoes. What benefits do you want to get out of reading an article? Cater to your reader’s interests rather than your own.
3. Offer lots of free, useful information.
Following on the last tip, keep in mind that your readers are looking for specific “how-to” instructions to help them achieve a certain goal. Offer lots of tangible information that is immediately useful to them. Do not lead them through hoops just to get to an order form for a $29.95 “Make $50,000 in 30 Days or Your Money Back!” e-book.
4) Avoid gimmicks.
While it may be true that a sucker is born every minute, most internet users are sophisticated enough to tell what’s legitimate and what’s not. Write with the intention of offering something substantial to the reader. Be honest and forthright. Your article should not cause the reader to think, “What is this guy trying to sell me?”
5) Be succinct.
Get to the point quickly, preferably in the first or second paragraph. Avoid lengthy paragraphs. Use lots of white space to separate your paragraphs to make them easier to read.
6) Your article should not be too short.
Certainly, it’s possible to write a good article packed with useful information using just a few hundred words. If your article is too short, however, some webmasters may feel hesitant to reprint it on their sites. They may, instead, borrow your ideas and write their own article, gaining authorship without having to give you credit for your ideas.
How long should your article be? I suggest at least 800 words, preferably longer. Longer articles give webmasters the impression that you have put some thought and effort into your work and, thus, are deserving of publicity on their sites.
7) Use live (clickable) links in your resource box.
Many e-zines permit clickable links in resource boxes. Yet, many authors forgo this privilege by simply spelling out their URLs. Whenever permitted, you should spell out your URL as well as make it clickable (e.g. http://www.nexcomp.com/weblaunch). The advantages of a clickable URL are (1) readers can go to your site simply by clicking on it, and (2) more importantly, search engines will be able to record it as a link your web site, adding to your link popularity and search engine rankings.
Avoid hyping in your resource box. Your resource box, while promotional in nature, should be brief and tasteful. The purpose of your resource box is not to sell your readers something, but to lead them to your website which does the actual selling. Your resource box should contain your name, your company name, a brief description of your products or services, your web site’s URL, and a clickable link to your site.
9) Put some thought and effort into your writing.
E-zines have varying standards for accepting articles, and some accept and publish all submissions without any human review at all. However, this does not mean you should write an article just for sake of having it published somewhere. If your article comes off as half-baked, readers may make a similar assumption about you and your business practices.
10) Submit your article to as many e-zines as feasible.
There are dozens of e-zines on the web that welcome submissions from independent authors. Ideally, you’d want your article to be exposed on as many of them as you can. But it takes time to register and submit to each one of them. Therefore, I recommend that you submit to only a handful of the more popular ones.
Below is a list of e-zines along with their Google PageRanks (PR). The higher the PR of an e-zine, the greater its online visibility.

Social Bookmarking Is An Easy Way To Increase Profits, Traffic, And Links
Posted on March 27th, 2010 No commentsBy: Doug Smith
A bookmark is an item that you place into a paper book to mark the place where you stopped reading. This bookmark allows you to easily return to the exact spot you were before, without having to memorize the page number.
An online bookmark serves the same purpose. When you find an internet site you want to mark for later viewing, or that you’ll want to find again, you tell your browser to set a bookmark. These are also called favorites. This bookmark allows you to return exactly to the same site again and again, without ever having to memorize the link.
What Is Social Bookmarking
You’ve been using social bookmarking, even if you didn’t know it! When you forward a funny e-mail joke or picture to a friend, that’s a form of social bookmarking. You are socially sharing a bookmark to a website with a friend. That gives your friends exposure to websites they might never find on their own. They do the same for you when they send these informal social bookmarks to you.
Social Bookmarking Sites
Social bookmarking sites began as a way for web surfers to upload and save their personal browser bookmarks online. That way, web visitors are not limited to their own computers. By saving their personal social bookmarks online, they can access them from any computer.
The social aspect of social bookmarking is that everyone else saving their personal social bookmarks to these online sites can see and use everyone else’s bookmarks! The social bookmarking site essentially becomes a giant collection of bookmarks contributed by many users.
Social Bookmarking Tags
Social bookmarking sites are built and organized by humans. However, there needs to be some kind of organization. Humans provide that too. Each social bookmark is submitted with one or more tags. A tag is nothing more than a keyword that describes the site being submitted.
If you visit a social bookmarking website looking for information on cars, you might search for the words “car,” “cars,” or “automobiles.” The bookmarks with those tags will be shown in the search results. If you are looking for a specific type of car such as a Ferrari, bookmarks tagged with the word “Ferrari” will be shown. It’s that easy!
Making Money With Social Bookmarking
If you have a website that sells a product or service, why not submit that site to the major social bookmarking sites? When you submit your internet marketing site to social bookmarking sites, along with appropriate bookmarking tags, you are tapping into a huge, extremely targeted group of people looking for information – your information!

How and Why to RSS
Posted on March 26th, 2010 No commentsBy Richard Keir
RSS feeds and blogs (and blog and pinging) are part of the latest hyper-frenzy in internet marketing. Tools and services are mushrooming all over. But there seem to be some rather distorted ideas about all this.
Unless you want to get into the technical stuff, exactly what an RSS feed is doesn’t really matter. Now I care because I use them for a lot of things, work with code and do geeky tech stuff. But from a marketing perspective the underlying technical structure is only relevant because it clues us in on what to use an RSS feed for. And that’s the thing you have to understand.
An RSS marketing feed is not about the feed’s content in most cases. Feeds that carry large quantities of content are usually referred to as data feeds and that’s not what people are going to put in their RSS aggregators. A basic RSS feed consists of a varied number of items with title, a link to the full content source and a short extract or description from the full source. There’s more but that’s the basics.
If you subscribe (by email) to something like the daily New York Times headlines, think about what a typical item looks like:
++++ Big deal thing happens somewhere
++++ By A Writer
++++ Once again an astonishing big deal thing has happened…
++++ Read Full Article: URL-link-to-news-story
Title and author – short description – link to full content
Just like an RSS feed item.
What should be obvious from this example is that RSS feeds are about change. New content. Updated information. They are not about static content.
The group you want to reach, people who surf via RSS, are looking for an efficient, fast way to identify new content that they are interested in. So if you’re going to do an RSS feed, you need it to link to and report on new and updated content.
There are lots of tools available that will let you create your own feeds, manually or with varying degrees of automation. One of the most popular means is by blogging. You really don’t need any technical knowledge at all to set up a blog and produce a feed.
You can use a blog just as a feed generator. Basically this is what blog and ping software and services are doing. That kind of feed is not for people, it’s for the search engines. It’s a way to alert the SEs that a new site with un-indexed pages exists. Blogs used that way are not what I’m talking about here.
You can create a blog about anything. What’s important is that new content is added regularly. There are many ways to add valuable content to a blog. You needn’t be a brilliant writer, many don’t require much or any writing.
The best way to check this out for yourself is to blog-surf. No matter what kind of site you have – or what kind of product you want to promote – there’s always a way to write about it, find new information, check and report on similar or related products and sites, report on industry news, provide your own opinions and ideas.
As most people quickly discover, it’s far easier than it sounds at first.Your blog will produce at least one RSS type feed. Blogger produces just an atom feed, WordPress and other blog software normally produce one or 2 types of RSS feeds and an atom feed. Services like feedburner.com can allow you to “burn” your feed and then promote a single burned url which will provide any kind of feed a user wants.
Now that you have content and an RSS/atom feed that links to that content, your next step is to publicize your feed. You have two different main avenues since your blog has real content.
First you can add your feed to RSS search engines and RSS directories.
And second, because your blog has that real content and isn’t just an RSS feed generator, you can add your blog to blog search engines and blog directories. You could even use blog traffic exchanges like BlogExplosion.
This is a simple, low – or basically zero – cost, yet highly effective way to get new traffic from at least two sources.
First from your RSS feed. Feeds are an increasingly popular way to save time, search and surf. If your content is valuable and interesting people will subscribe to your feed and click thru to those full articles or posts that interest them — targeted traffic from a group that is relatively affluent and tech savvy.
Second, blogs are extremely popular. A good blog will get linked, reported, commented on, other blogs may pick up your feed and report items from it. All of this exposure can bring valuable free traffic.
And finally, as an extra good thing, search engines like blogs because of the regularly updated content – they are nuts about fresh content – and the easily spidered structure blogs use. So as your blog pages get indexed in the SEs, you can also get direct search engine traffic.
